Unparallaled Mabuhay - A brief history of MP Dragon Boat Team
Mabuhay Paddlers, formerly known as Pinoy Warriors, was established on September 15, 2017 by a group of Filipino athletes and novice paddlers working in Bahrain, and are proud to be one of the pioneers of dragon boat racing in the kingdom.
The team aims to be the most competitive crew in the region promoting 'One Team, One Spirit' camaraderie to represent the said country as well as the Phillipines while stimulating a fit, healthy and longer life which consequently promotes Bahrain water sports and tourism.
It also supports the five different programmes allocated to
- Children
- Schools
- Academic Institutions
- Para-athletes
- and Elite Athletes
set-up by the first-ever rowing club in the country - the Bahrain Rowing and country which is the Bahrain Rowing and Canoe Centre (BRC).
The team's first achivement took place at the BRC's first Inaugural Dragon Boat Race held on Jan 13, 2018, in Bahrain Bay in which the team stood as the 1st Runner-up out of the 12 competing teams.
This was followed by another momentous attainment as they became the champion in BRC Spring Festival Edition Dragon Boat race held on February 24, 2018. It turned out to be a huge victory and was covered by different media outlets such as the Gulf Daily News , and highlighted by the Phillippine Embassy Bahrain, Department of Foreign Affairs website (Phillippiness) and in other social media platforms, promoting the good reputation of the team and providing a wider exposure of dragon boat racing water sport in Bahrain.
Furthermore, the number of members increased in the consecutive months and the team was split into different teams which brought them to constitute a new team name from Pinoy Warriors to Mabuhay Paddlers in July 2018.
Currently, the unparalleled capabilities of the team continues to excel through various types of training (e.g. pool training, land training) for continuous learning in all facets of dragon boat paddling and actively engaging in local races to acquire more experience hence, preparing the crew for bigger competitions internationally.
