A campaign to sanitise public amenities and mosques in Arad is underway, writes Ghazi Alshehabi.
According to area councillor Ahmed Al Mugahwi, the Muharraq Municipality launched the campaign with the help of several groups of volunteers.
He told the GDN yesterday that the drive started with general disinfection of areas susceptible to a build-up of germs before moving on to sewer and rainwater drains and public parks.
“Last week we visited parks in the area and with the help of residents we started cleaning up the slides and swings,” he said.
“After that somebody suggested we disinfect mosques and the bathrooms there, so we have started on that.
“Next, we will start on garbage bins, with the help of youth centres and groups of volunteers from the constituents.
“The next phase will involve collecting sanitation and cleaning supplies to be donated to schools in the area.”
Mr Al Mugahwi said the donations will be distributed among all public and private school as well as nurseries in the area.
There are six public schools, three private schools and around eight nurseries.
Hand sanitisers will be put up in public areas as well.
The councillor praised ‘Nesa Al Fareej’ (Women of the Neighbourhood) which has nearly 200 members in the campaign, and a number of youth centres such as the Arad Youth Centre and various other volunteer groups.
He said supporting the campaign were companies and hospitals such as Al Hilal Hospital which has supplied gloves, masks and sanitisers.
