Loan payments deferred

THOSE impacted by Covid-19 will have their loan instalments delayed for six months.

Details of the initiative were announced last night at a Press briefing at the Finance Ministry complex in Manama. Central Bank of Bahrain Governor Rasheed Al Maraj told the GDN on the sidelines that any bank customer, regardless of nationality, who has been impacted financially by the pandemic will qualify to have their loan instalments delayed for six months without any additional fees or penalties.

However, he clarified that this is not a blanket waiver for all loans at all banks, but only at postponement for six months, specifically for those impacted by the Covid-19 situation. “If you have a business which is affected because of the overall situation of Covid-19 in the country then you can approach for your bank loans to be postponed,” he said.
