12 new coronavirus cases registered

Twelve new cases of the Coronavirus Disease were registered in Bahrain yesterday, writes Raji Unnikrishnan.

According to the Health Ministry’s website dedicated to Covid-19, there were 265 active cases, of which three were critical.

Meanwhile, eight more people left the treatment and isolation facilities yesterday taking the total number of people recovered and discharged to 431.

So far, Bahrain has 700 cases, including the recovered and four deaths, out of 44,386 people tested.

Meanwhile, the Bahrain Medical Society (BMS) reiterated its support to all medical personnel involved in the battle against Covid-19.

BMS president Dr Ghada Al Qassim underlined the need for teamwork and reminded the public of the “heavy price” the medics are paying, as they strive to treat the virus patients.

“Our physicians and all healthcare professionals are in the front line of this crisis and must continue to provide care for their patients in environments that are safe for all,” she said in a statement last night.

“Teamwork is more important now than ever. There are so many team members showing up every day, risking their own health to make sure the hospitals are ready to help the most vulnerable.”

The society pledged all support to secure an adequate workforce, while insisting that personal protection equipment were being used while treating patients.

“We will ensure healthcare workers who become infected receive treatment quickly and readily and will clarify all medical guidelines on the quarantining of healthcare professionals exposed to Covid-19.”
