It was a day that I would never forget, 24 August 2017.
I left Hotel Terrace with a group of tourists to finish my unfinished mission. On 28 June 2017, I wanted to explore Brunni, a famous attraction in Engelberg, Switzerland. It was foggy on that day. The ticketing staff advised us not to take the second leg of the trip to the mountain. She showed us the live screen. There was zero visibility. I wanted to enjoy the panoramic views. It was not meant to be, at least for that time.
We took a walk between the beautiful houses of the Old Town. The weather was so lovely. It was partly cloudy. The temperature was only 14 centigrade. And now and then, the breeze touched our faces. I did not envy the tourists with me because their hair did not move with the breeze. They were either bald or had thin hair. We were on the same boat. It was an enjoyable journey because the tourists got the chance to see the shops and restaurants in the area. We stopped at a fountain to drink from the cold water running down from the mountains.
Then, we had another stop next Engelberg Abbey that was built in 1120. It is not only a Monastery, but also it houses a school. It sits on a vast area of land. We took pictures of it and the Angel statue next to it. Then, we moved on.
We passed through the graveyard adjacent to the Abbey. The graves were beautifully decorated. We marveled at them. We began to look for the oldest grave. And we saw a few exemplary examples of loyalty. The surviving partners and relatives were watering the flowers on the graves and cleaning the tombstones.
Next, we walked in a lush green meadow. The air was so fresh. It was so fresh; you could smell the pine trees leaves. The birds were singing beautiful melodies. Everyone was happy, the parents and the children. Even those who were pushing strollers had no complaints. It was a pleasant walk to all. We enjoyed every step of it.
We arrived at the ticket booth. Bought the tickets. Boarded the big cable car. After a few minutes, it began the ascend to the first level of Brunni at the height of 1600 meters. The views were dazzling. Everyone was taking pictures and videos.
We arrived at the first level. Explored the area. Took more pictures. Then, we moved on to the open chair lift station to ascend to the final level. It was a mesmerizing journey. We enjoyed the majestic views. The sounds of the cows’ bells were like a symphony. It followed a particular pattern as if they had an orchestra conductor guiding and pacing their walks in the mountain.
When we arrived, I met one of the most stunning lakes I have ever seen in my life. As the tour director of the trip, I regretted allocating just three hours for the journey. Because I could have stayed there for the entire day. Since then, I visited Brunni a few times, but the visit of 24 August 2017 will forever be the closest to my heart.
