THREE commercial stores are under investigation for breaches in health and safety protocols put in place to combat Covid-19, the GDN reported today.
One of the shops, a sheesha café, was serving sheesha to customers outside of the café while the other two, which sold foodstuffs, did not abide by the health and safety protocols issued by the Public Health Directorate.
The Public Prosecution said in a statement last night that the two stores did not check temperatures of customers and workers and did not direct customers to leave a distance of one metre between them. It also said that both stores did not commit to cleaning and sterilising shopping carts before and after use, and the employees did not use gloves as instructed.
The Public Prosecution has started its investigations and has set a bail of BD2,000 for the owner of the coffee shop, while the other two suspects were released on a bail of BD1,000 each.
The cases will be referred to the criminal courts after completion of the investigations.
“The Public Prosecution is keen on strictly applying the provisions of the law against anyone who violates the health procedures and measures imposed, especially since the crime in this regard affects the entire community and directly endangers everyone’s safety,” it said in a statement.
“It also undermines the efforts made by the authorities concerned in the kingdom to control this pandemic and to prevent its spread.”
