Short Story Entry : Education is My Basic Right, by Kashaf Luqman, 21.

The morning was bright but sad. I was seated on my wooden chair in the class, twisting and turning, trying to absorb the picture of my two calm, happy class fellows seated right infront of me while my head was hurting like some one was ruthlessly hammering nails in my scalp. I was lost. My body continued to get colder.

When suddenly I realised that some one was calling my name, "Ibrahim, Ibrahiiiimm," pulling me out of my grief.

"The head wants to see you in the office, right now," my teacher uttered.

Obviously, I had been waiting for this to happen since morning. My stomach wasn't churning for no reason.

My school fees was still unpaid like every other month.

I walked to the office but I couldn't feel my legs, the same embarrassment, humiliation and the same taunting laughs were waiting for me.

I knocked on the door and went inside to listen what the principal had to say even though every word she had to say was unwantedly, unintentionally copy-pasted to my brain since I had been listening to it every single month.

" Good morning, Ibrahim. Hope you're well. I've been wanting to inform you that your school fee is still unpaid which is why you will have to spend the entire day outside of my office until your dues have been cleared. Thank you. "

Nothing new, the same heartbreaking words, the identical tears falling inside me instead of my face, I've learned to cry silently.

I could hear my pulse pounding. My legs were shaky while my breathing became slow. I stood outside the office looking for some support while my brain was bursting with so many questions.

Why is it that after being the topper of the class I still get to stand outside the principal's office while my class fellows who barely ever listen to the lectures get to sit in the class? Why do I have to go through this humiliation when paying my school fees isn't even in my hand?

The answer was simple, the life is unfair, people are heartless, nobody cares and you have to suffer even if you don't want to.

The moral to the story: Millions of children around the world have to go through the pain and humiliation of not being able to pay their school fees, it might seem like it's not much of a big deal but it is. It destroys so many little hearts emotionally, damages their self confidence, puts them in depression.

So many children have to fight these silent battles.

Most importantly so many talented children leave their education because of the stress they've to go through.

Let's become humans, give shoulder to those who suffer, spread kindness, help those in need but silently, let's never laugh at others but understand their pain.

One act of kindness can bring a whole lot of change in someone's life. Let's teach every child that education is your basic right.
