I was coming home from work one day and as I was parking my car outside our gate, I was met with the most bizarre scene I had witnessed in a while.
My brother and sister were balancing on the ledge of the wall surrounding our house right near the roof of our outdoor kitchen.
They were standing on the thin ledge looking intently at something that was just outside my range of vision.
Both were staring ahead so focused that I was worried if I made a sound I would startle them and one of them would fall God forbid so I remained in my car observing them.
Suddenly, they both jumped onto the roof and disappeared from sight into a cloud of dust causing my heart to skip a beat.
I ran out of the car and rushed to them calling their names because all I could hear was scuffling on top of the roof along with some random words that made no sense whatsoever including ‘grab it’.
They suddenly appeared, dishevelled and dusty - which made no sense at all – but as they straightened up and lowered themselves from the wall I saw the most beautiful pigeon cuddled in my brother’s hands.
We took her inside and I learned that they spotted the pigeon from inside the house trying to fly but struggling to get lift-off so they stalked her and as I arrived they were at the final stage of capturing her.
My brother held her in his hands calming her down as my sister inspected her wings and thankfully her wings were intact with no injuries and she was just dehydrated and tired from the heat leading to her struggle with flight.
We named her Shaikha due to her beauty and grace and she became the newest member of our family.
