Remember what fun we had last year with The Big Draw in Bahrain? Hundreds of people learned to draw labyrinths and helped make a 1000 piece path out of broken pottery.
Bahraini Experimental Artist Sara Madan enjoyed taking part so much that she decided to lead this year's activity! And, as last year's organisers, Baloo's Buddies and our volunteers, are delighted to support her.
The Big Draw Festival is a worldwide celebration of drawing. It promotes the universal language of drawing as a tool for learning, expression and invention.
The Big Draw campaign shines a light on the need for drawing – making a mark with meaning – and its role as a tool for expression, creativity, learning and sharing ideas. Drawing – in all its forms, helps us make sense of a rapidly changing world around us. It is a global language which cuts across all barriers of culture, race and identity.
Kate Mason Director, The Big Draw
2020 is the International Festival's 20th anniversary and the theme this year is The Big Green Draw: A Climate of Change.
In Bahrain, Sara Madan will bring people together virtually (due to COVID 19 restrictions) to share their love of art and nature and encourage experimental creativity.
My aim is to use drawing in whatever form to help us to reconnect with our natural historic past and look to a more environmentally sustainable future. The Big Draw Festival is a fabulous platform for this goal.
The Big Green Draw in Bahrain will celebrate the story of the Date Palm Tree. Formerly Bahrain was the island of one million palm trees and Bahrain’s culture and identity is intertwined with the date palm. From its beloved fruit to strong trunk and versatile fronds, the palm tree has provided our ancestors with natural, economic, cultural and social wealth.
So, let’s start drawing, making, and creating palm tree art!
WHEN:
Kick off virtual event 16th October 2020 at 4pm, followed by weekly online activities until Bahrain National Day 16th December 2020.
Go to @s_collectionsbh for the event link, videos and weekly prompts
WHAT:
Each week we’ll show you how to draw and be creative focusing on the palm tree using a multitude of different techniques such as drawing, doodling, painting, 3D art, collage, recycled art, paper-mâché, etc.
WHO:
Anyone, anywhere in the comfort (and COVID safety) of your own home. While we encourage you to go out and study palm trees in nature (appropriately socially distanced), you can do every thing virtually.
Post your art at: #drawBHPalm & Tag: @S-Collectionsbh
And, who knows, by National Day we may have drawn one million palm trees! Now that would be a fabulous celebration of Bahrain's culture and creativity.
