Have we been given life,
To learn how to love?
Will feeble words suffice,
To talk about love?
Will all of space and time,
Will every human mind,
Will all the greatest lives,
Be enough to understand love?
It's in our very soul,
It's what makes us whole,
Yet we cannot fathom it,
How can we become it?
Infinite opportunities,
To learn to love,
But even infinity isn't enough,
To tell us what it's made of,
Wise men and alchemists,
Storytellers, poets and artists,
Mathematicians and scientists,
Fools, dreamers and lunatics,
No one is left untouched,
By it's myriad possibilities,
No one is left unfazed,
By it's curious mysteries,
For it is so familiar,
Yet sometimes so distant,
For it is so commonplace,
Yet sometimes nonexistent,
Calling it chemicals in the mind,
We have often tried to define it,
Using machines and media,
We have often tried to design it,
Every effort has been made,
To destroy and malign it,
The war rages on daily,
To silence and deny it,
Love is what we know,
But we don't let it flow,
Blinded by flawed logic,
We're afraid to show it,
The very part of any age,
That can this world save,
To show love takes courage,
Yet we refuse to be brave.
To love takes a bigger person,
To forgive is indeed divine,
Love creates a better human,
It lets God through us shine.
