Taylor-Brown & Skipper claim big wins

Georgia Taylor-Brown is back on top, winning Super League Triathlon Munich over the weekend and rocketing into the lead of the championship series to defend her title.

In what became a solo time trial off the front in wet conditions on the cobblestones of Munich’s Olympiapark, Taylor-Brown claimed her first race victory in the series. Racing over the Enduro format of three non-stop supersprint swim-bike-runs, the British star took command from the first bike leg and only continued to solidify her eventual win throughout.

She said post-race, “My aim was to go really hard in the first tri and treat it like it was one race. That would hopefully split the race up – and it did. Then just stay focused. I know from last year in Jersey if you have a bit more time to go through transitions, less mistakes are made. It felt good, I knew I’d lose time on the swim, but I felt good on the bike today. The fact it was wet yesterday and we got to practice meant I knew exactly the lines I wanted to take into the corner and the speeds, so I felt fine.”

The pace she set was so high that numerous athletes at the back of the field were lapped or fell further back than 90 seconds and were eliminated, including teammate Cassandre Beaugrand who however claimed points for fastest swim and bike laps.

In the men’s race, Bahrain Victorious Scorpion Kenji Nener finished fifth after helping set the pace in the lead pack, while Tyler Mislawchuk concluded the day in 15th.

The Bahrain Victorious Scorpions remain atop the team standings with 164 points, taking a total of 64 points in Munich to keep a 16-point lead going into the third race of the series in Malibu this coming weekend.

Joe Skipper made a triumphant comeback to long-course racing, winning Ironman Wales this weekend after an extended break following his historic sub-7 hour performance at the Pho3nix Sub7 Project Powered by Zwift in June. The man who owns the British 12-hour time trial cycling record overcame a mechanical that cost him 20 minutes on the bike, eventually winning by eight minutes off the back of a massive 2:37 marathon.

He has now secured qualification for next year’s Ironman World Championship, even as he looks toward competing in this year’s edition in only four weeks’ time.
