MEMORIES - U18 entry

Emily’s father lived in a foreign country. She and her mother lived in her aunt’s house. Before Emily was born, her mother slept on a wooden bed with a cloth on top. It was uncomfortable, especially for her pregnant mother. So, after she was born, her mother put some hay under the bedsheet, so it was a little more comfortable for Emily. Her aunt never liked her or her mother. Her mother had to buy food from her aunt to feed her. Her father used to send money to her aunt. So, her aunt could give her mother the money, but 70% of the money, her aunt kept for herself.

If Emily’s mother spent any extra money on Emily, her aunt would scold her mother and take the extra money away. Her aunt used to say that Emily would rob her father and make all of them poor, but all the money her aunt had was Emily’s father’s money. If her mother were busy cleaning the house, her aunt would feed her, but she would hide all the curry from her and only feed her plain rice. Her aunt would eat the curry alone.

One such day, Emily and her mother went to buy groceries. While going home, Emily saw a dress with a small flower.

She begged her mother to buy it, but her mother refused and Emily started crying. Her mother couldn’t refuse her three-year-old crying baby, so she bought her the dress Emily was so happy that she immediately wore the dress, but when they reached home and her aunt saw the dress, she scolded her mother and forced her mother to take the dress and return it. So, her mother took the dress off Emily and she started to cry Her mother unwillingly slapped her for the first time and left to return the dress. The whole time, her mother was crying because she was very upset about the fact that she slapped her daughter and couldn’t provide a small amount of happiness.
