An attempt to smuggle in drugs worth BD100,000 through the post has been thwarted.
The Interior Ministry’s Anti-Narcotics Directorate collaborated with Customs to intercept the parcel containing methamphetamine – locally known as shabu.
Four individuals, identified only as Asian aged between 30 and 33, were arrested for their involvement in the smuggling attempt.
“After receiving a notification from Bahrain International Airport’s Customs regarding the package, the Anti-Narcotics Police commenced a search and investigation,” said the Interior Ministry in an official statement.
“Information and evidence were collected which resulted in the arrest of the four suspects red-handed when they tried to receive the package.
“The General Directorate of Criminal Investigations and Forensic Science seized the contraband and legal measures were taken in preparation to refer the case to the Public Prosecution.”
