In the quiet parts of my hometown in the Philippines, I dreamed of a life outside my country. I didn't know then that this longing would lead me on a life-changing journey as an overseas Filipino worker, preferably with a shorter term (OFW). Leaving behind the familiar comforts of home, I started an exciting adventure that would challenge me, expand my understanding, and transform who I am. This is the story of how I ended up in faraway places, discovered what I'm capable of, and learned to navigate the challenges of being a citizen of the world.

Before I start this amazing journey, let me tell you a bit about myself. 

My name is Aladdin, a skilled and dedicated hair stylist from the beautiful landscapes of the 𝗣𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗽𝗽𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀. You can call me 𝙅𝘼𝙕𝙕, 

a nickname given to me by my family, friends, and clients back in the Philippines. With a friendly demeanor and a genuine passion for hairdressing, I strive to provide exceptional experiences for my clients. Through my expertise, I aim to build strong relationships and create personalized styles that enhance each client's unique look.

I am an 𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗲𝗮𝘀 𝗙𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗽𝗶𝗻𝗼 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸𝗲𝗿, filled with pride and determination, and I have a strong desire to discover new things, experience different cultures, and create my own path. In 2011, with a combination of excitement and nervousness, I started my first journey abroad. It all began on a significant day, January 28, when I said goodbye to my dear Philippines and arrived in the lively country of Qatar. I spent eight months fully engaged in the diverse Qatari culture, improving my skills, and discovering the many opportunities that awaited me.

However, fate had different intentions, and on October 1, 2011, 

I found myself being brought to a new place - the captivating kingdom of 𝗕𝗮𝗵𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗻. It was in this remarkable country, specifically at the prestigious 𝗦𝗺𝗮𝗿𝘁 𝗟𝗼𝗼𝗸 𝗦𝗮𝗹𝗼𝗻, that I discovered a sanctuary for my profession and a place that felt like a second home.

In the Philippines, I had spent more than ten years refining my skills in a salon that served both men and women. It was a rewarding journey, as I had the chance to assist a diverse range of clients and witness the transformative effects of beauty and self-care. However, upon my arrival in Bahrain, I found myself entering a fresh area of expertise — the realm of men's grooming.

At the well-regarded Smart Look Salon, I fully embraced the change. Styling men's hair and grooming their beards became my newfound passion. It was an exciting change as I learned all the little details of this special kind of work and got to know what my male clients liked. I really enjoyed using my creativity to make personalized styles that made them look even better and feel more confident.

Working in a salon dedicated exclusively to men had its challenges and rewards. In Bahrain, I experienced a vibrant mix of old traditions and modern influences, where men combined traditional grooming methods with the latest trends. Being in this busy atmosphere helped me learn more about myself, not just as a talented professional, but also as someone who could adjust and succeed in a foreign country.

Unlike my short time in Qatar, where I struggled to find my place and a sense of belonging, Bahrain welcomed me with open arms. As I settled into my work at the Smart Look Salon, I discovered that it was more than just a job. It became my sanctuary, a place where I could fully express myself and be true to who I am professionally.

In Bahrain, I not only discovered a deep passion for men's grooming but also developed a profound affection for the lively culture and kind-hearted people. This enchanting kingdom provided me with the same freedom and privacy that I cherished back home in the Philippines. I had the opportunity to express myself genuinely, both in my professional and personal life. Whether it was pursuing my hobbies, exploring the breathtaking landscapes, or building meaningful connections, Bahrain gave me the space to be truly authentic.

The freedom and privacy I found became incredibly important in my journey as a Filipino worker abroad. It allowed me to fully immerse myself in Bahrain's culture while staying true to my own values and traditions. In the vibrant streets of this captivating kingdom, I found a sense of balance, acceptance, and a renewed sense of purpose.

As I experienced the good and bad times at my job, I came to understand that it was the happiness and satisfaction I felt that made me stay in Bahrain. I loved what I did, my clients appreciated me, and I felt like I belonged in the community of the salon. All of these things made every day feel worthwhile.

In Bahrain, I found a place where my professional ambitions aligned with my personal desires. I could thrive as an overseas Filipino worker while living a life that resonated with my true self.

Reflecting on my journey, I am deeply grateful for the opportunities that unfolded in Bahrain. It has become my second home, and the warmth and acceptance from its people have touched my heart.
