An Arangettam (Dance Debut) by disciples of renowned dance teacher of Bahrain, Smt.  Sheena Chandradas is scheduled on Friday, 24 May at the Indian Club Auditorium featuring 12 participants. Bharatanatyam and Mohiniyattam students are to take the stage.

The Guru (dance teacher) is Smt. Sheena Chandradas, a professional danseuse who has trained more than a thousand students during the last two and half decades in Bahrain.  She is a leading exponent of Indian classical dance forms like Bharatanatyam, Mohiniyattam, Kuchipudi, Katahk and Kerala natanam.

She is one of the very few dance teachers in Bahrain who continues to perform gracefully live onstage with her students. She believes in updating the fine art of dance forms by continuously studying and has just passed another exam conducted by   Pracheena Kalakendra, Kerala  with distinction.

Twelve disciples are participating in this year’s the Arangettam: 10 Bharatanatyam students and 2 Mohiniyattam students.  There are two notable participants in this year’s program. Two women, one who is a mother and the other being a grandmother.

Disciple and Grandmother Mrs. Prasanna Chandramohan is a retired Govt of India employee and started learning Bharatanatyam just one and half years back after her retirement. A mother of two daughters and a twelve-year-old granddaughter, she managed to reach the Arangettam stage solely due to her dedication, commitment and passion for learning the art. She has been wholeheartedly encouraged and supported by the dance teacher, who took it as a challenge to teach Prasanna in spite of her age. Her whole family in this journey of self-actualization has motivated Mrs. Prasanna.

The other remarkable person is Mrs. Shyna Abdul Hakim, who started her Bharatanatyam lessons about two and half years back. She is mother two; a who is Dr. Nada who had  learnt dance with the same teacher. Mrs Shyna is also blessed with son studying in India. Mrs. Shyna says that her inspiration has been her daughter Dr. Nada who prodded and pushed her to learn the dance. In addition to Bharatanatyam, she is also practicing Mohiniyattam.

2.      Ms. Hanvika Kolipaka, D/o Mr. Bindu Prasad and Mrs. Sudha Rani, class five student of The Indian School. Studying Bharatanatyam for 3 years.

3.      Ms. Ivana Arun, D/o Mr. Arun Jacob and Mrs. Nimmy Baby, class four student of The New Indian School. Studying Bharatanatyam for 3 years.

4.      Ms. Juana Arun, D/o Mr. Arun Jacob and Mrs. Nimmy Baby, class five student of The New Indian School. Studying Bharatanatyam for 3 years.

5.      Ms. Pratyusha Dey, D/o Dr. Nigamanada Dey Mrs. Poonam Dey, class four student of Indian School. Studying Bharatanatyam for 3 years.

6.      Ms. Nandana Rajeeshkumar, D/o Mr. Rajeesh Kumar and Mrs. Rejitha Rajeesh, class six student of The Asian School. Studying Bharatanatyam for 1 1/2 years.

7.      Ms. Sanvi Smith, D/o Mr. Mr. Smith Raveendran and Mrs. Neethu Smith, class three student of The Indian School. Studying Bharatanatyam for 3 years.

8.      Ms. Treesa Maria Roney, D/o Mr. Roney Antony and Mrs. Rukku Thomas, class six student of The New Indian School. Studying Bharatanatyam for 3 years.

Mohiniyattam:

1.      Ms. Ameya Girish, D/o Mr. Girish Kumar and Mrs. Vidya Girish, class seven student of The Indian School. Studying Mohiniyattam for 1 1/2 years. Ms Ameya has already performed Arangettam in Bharatanatyam

2.      Ms. Harshita Gayatri Yelamarthi, D/o Mr. Y Raghavendra and Mrs. Y Ratna Bindu, class six student of Alnoor International School. Studying Mohiniyattam for 1 1/2 years.

The event will be graced by invited dignitaries and Indian Club Officials and slated to start by 5 PM.
