Beyond Goodbye

It was a beautiful Sunday morning, filled with the sweet songs of birds and the warm rays of the sun. Two young girls, Rohini (14) and Riya (12), were excitedly getting ready to visit their mother in the hospital.  Their grandfather, who had been taking care of them, helped them pick out their favorite dresses and hairstyles.

As they prepared to leave, Rohini carefully placed a handful of their mother's favorite chocolates in a small bag. "Mom will be so happy to see us," she said, beaming with excitement. Riya nodded in agreement, her eyes shining with anticipation.

When they arrived at the hospital, they were greeted by a group of somber-looking staff members who are their grandma’s colleagues. "I'm afraid your mother was discharged an hour ago," one of them said gently. The girls exchanged confused glances. "But we were supposed to visit her," Rohini protested.

The staff member smiled kindly. "I'm sure she's happy to be home with your family. Why don't you go home and surprise her?" The girls' faces lit up with excitement as they rushed back with their grandfather.

However, as they approached their house, they noticed a large crowd of people gathered outside. Their father, usually a calm and composed man, was standing at the gate, his face contorted in grief. The girls exchanged worried glances as they stepped out of the car.

As they entered the gate, Rohini's grip on the chocolates loosened, and they spilled onto the ground. The girls' eyes widened in horror as they took in the scene before them. Their mother lay on a stretcher, surrounded by weeping relatives and friends.

Rohini and Riya were in shock, unable to comprehend the sudden turn of events. Their father, overcome with grief, couldn't even look at them. The girls felt lost and alone, their world shattered in an instant.

In the days that followed, the family struggled to come to terms with their loss. Rohini and Riya were consumed by grief, unable to understand why their mother had been taken away from them so suddenly.

One day, while going through their mother's belongings, Rohini stumbled upon a small notebook. As she flipped through its pages, she discovered a message from her mother, written in her own handwriting:

"Life is precious, and every moment is a gift. Don't waste a single day without telling your loved ones how much you care. I will always be with you, in your hearts and memories."

Rohini's eyes welled up with tears as she read the message. She felt a surge of emotions, but this time, it was different. She felt a sense of peace, knowing that her mother's love and legacy would live on through them.

Rohini shared the message with Riya and their father, and slowly, they began to heal. They realized that their mother's passing had taught them a valuable lesson: to cherish every moment with their loved ones and to never take life for granted.

As Rohini and Riya looked back on that fateful Sunday morning, they understood that the chocolates they had brought for their mother had become a symbol of their love and loss. But they also knew that their mother's love and memory would stay with them forever, a reminder to appreciate the beauty and fragility of life.

Most importantly, they realized that carrying their mother's words and wisdom with them had been a guiding force in their lives. By practically applying her teachings, they had gained success and navigated life's challenges with resilience.

As they reflected on their journey, they understood that their mother's legacy was not just a memory, but a living, breathing part of their daily lives. Her words had become their inner compass, directing them towards kindness, compassion, and courage.

The sisters knew that they would continue to face life's ups and downs, but they were confident that their mother's wisdom would remain their North Star, illuminating their path and inspiring them to live a life of purpose, love, and meaning…
