It was with deep sadness that I learned of the passing of Mr. Salah Khalid, the former Head of Radio Bahrain, who left us yesterday. His loss has left a profound sense of sorrow in the hearts of all who had the pleasure of working with him. The significant impact he made at Radio Bahrain, as well as the countless lives he touched, will continue to resonate for years to come.
Salah was my first radio boss, the one who gave me the opportunity to join Radio Bahrain years ago as a young presenter. From the very beginning, he showed me what it meant to be a true leader. His door was always open, whether to offer advice, lend an ear, or provide the encouragement to push forward. His guidance, motivated me to reach the milestones I did.
Bu Khalid (as we all loved to call him) wasn’t just a humble boss; he was a mentor, a leader, and a true supporter of those who worked with him. One of the most memorable moments of my radio career was when he trusted me with a prime-time drive-time show, a responsibility few young Bahrainis had been given at the time. His belief in me wasn’t just about my potential as a presenter—it was about him recognizing that we could all achieve more than we thought possible. Bu Khalid had the unique ability to see the best in people and push them to achieve greatness.
When I received an offer from Dubai 92 FM, I felt conflicted, unsure whether I should leave my role at Radio Bahrain for this new opportunity. Bu Khalid encouraged me to take the leap.
“This is your chance to learn and grow,” he told me. “Go for it.” His support in that moment is something I’ll always respect and never forget. His ability to see beyond the present and into the future was just one of the many qualities that made him such a remarkable leader.
Salah showed genuine care for his team and always met them with a smile. He was never too busy to listen, always ready to offer thoughtful advice or encouragement. His positivity was infectious, and he led by example, showing us what it meant to be both passionate about our work and kind to the people around us.
As we reflect on his life and legacy, I can’t help but think of his son, Ali, who I had briefly met when I returned from Dubai years later to take on a managerial role at the station where I first began. Ali is a talented young producer and an emerging social media figure. Watching him carry on his father’s passion and energy, I am confident that he will continue to build on the incredible legacy his father has left behind.
Salah may have signed off from this world, but his influence will never fade. His teachings, his warmth, and his leadership will continue to resonate with all of us who had the honor of working with him. He will be deeply missed, but never forgotten. Rest in peace, Bu Khalid.
Thank you for everything.
