Plans to expand Bahrain’s newly-launched ‘chill zones’ for delivery drivers have hit a roadblock after widespread complaints from residents and a backlash from the country’s three municipal councils.
“People are complaining that the bikers are so close to their doorsteps that they hear them giggling or playing cards, when they are trying to rest,” said Muharraq Municipal Council chairman Abdulaziz Al Naar.
“We are not against the initiative; in fact, it is a noble gesture towards an underprivileged segment of the community.
“But this project didn’t pass through the proper channels, especially the municipal councils.”
