Passengers have enjoyed the first ferry trip from Bahrain to Qatar today.
In an exclusive interview with the GDN’s sister newspaper Akhbar Al Khaleej during the inaugural voyage, Shaikh Abdulla bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, Minister of Transportation and Telecommunications, said the initiative comes under the directives and support of the leadership of both countries and represents a new and distinct experience in transportation between Bahrain and Qatar.
The daily ferry service is a first step, to be followed by expanding maritime connectivity with the rest of the GCC.
The aim is also to enhance Bahrain's position as a regional maritime logistics hub and reflects a commitment to strengthen Gulf integration and support of tourism, trade and logistics services.
The ferry service features two daily voyages, the first at 8am and the second at 8pm, with a journey time of approximately 80 minutes.
The ship is fully equipped and air-conditioned and accommodates up to 30 passengers, providing a comfortable and safe travel experience, say the operators.
