In recognition of his outstanding contributions to Indian music and performing arts, Sopana Vadya Kalasangham, Bahrain, will confer the prestigious “Sangeetharatnam” award on renowned musician Shri Ambilikkutten, founder, chairman, and managing director of the Indian Institute of Performing Arts (IIPA), Bahrain.
The award, which includes a specially designed shawl, citation, and crafted memento, will be presented by His Excellency Vinod K. Jacob, Indian Ambassador to Bahrain, during the inauguration ceremony of Vadya Sangamam 2025 at Tubli Adhari Park on December 5, 2025.
Under Shri Ambilikkutten’s leadership, IIPA has nurtured over ten thousand talented artists in the expatriate community over the past 22 years. A disciple of Padma Vibhushan Dr. Balamurali Krishna, he has been actively involved in music festivals, film backing vocals, and music direction. He gained early recognition by being adjudged University Talent at the Kerala University Youth Festival in 1982 and 1984, and began his journey in playback singing with the acclaimed film Swathi Thirunal.
Shri Ambilikkutten has collaborated with numerous music stalwarts, including Sangeethacharya V. Dakshinamoorthy, Dr. K. J. Yesudas, and Dr. Balamurali Krishna. In 2000, the Kerala Sangeetha Nataka Akademi honored him for his contributions. Demonstrating determination that transcends limitations, he has presented world-class performances both in India and abroad. Born in Pallam, Kottayam, he is the youngest son of the renowned poet and lyricist Abhayadev.
The award ceremony will also be graced by Padma Shri Jayaram, Padma Shri Mattannoor Sankarankutty Marar, and Smt. Lathika Teacher. Speaking on the occasion, Sopana Vadya Kalasangham founders and organizers—Santosh Kailas (Founder & Chairman), Anil Marar (Trustee), Chandrashekharan (Vadya Sangamam Chairman), and Joshi Guruvayoor (Convener)—stated:
"It is a proud moment to honor Shri Ambilikkutten, a role model for the artistic community in Bahrain. We warmly welcome everyone to Vadya Sangamam 2025."
