Rawdat-al-Bahar

As my family settled on the sun-kipped island of Bahrain, I was just a curious child, wide-eyed and full of wonder, the year was 1993.
My parents had made the decision to leave behind the familiarity of our old home, seeking new opportunities and a brighter future. Little did I know, Bahrain would shape me into the woman I am today.
Growing up in Bahrain was a sensory delight.
As I grew older, I began to appreciate the rich culture and traditions of Bahrain. I watched in awe as women around me – my mother, aunts, and friends – juggled family and work with strength and resilience. They were the backbone of our community, and I aspired to be like them.
During Ramadan, our home would come alive with the spirit of Gergaon.
The sound of drums and the sweet scent of traditional sweets filled the air as children went door-to-door, singing and dancing for treats.
I loved the sense of community, of belonging, that came with this cherished tradition.
As I discovered my passion for painting, I knew I wanted to capture the essence of Bahrain and its people on canvas.
My art became a reflection of the women who inspired me – strong, compassionate and fiercely proud.
I depicted them in vibrant colors, adorned with intricate jewellery and embroidered fabrics, their faces radiant with joy and determination, the famous Bahraini doors which signify how they have always had it open for expats, welcoming them and also all the endless opportunities behind those doors.
My painting, "Rawsat Al-Bahar" (Garden of the Sea), was a tribute to the women of Bahrain, who have played a pivotal role in shaping the country's history and identity.
Through my art, I hoped to celebrate the unsung heroes of Bahrain – the women who have worked tirelessly behind the scenes, nurturing their families and communities.
As I looked out at the sea, I knew that I was a part of something greater than myself – a global community of women, connected by our shared experiences and our determination to make a difference.
Bahrain, my first home, saw me grow from a little girl into the woman I am today and after three decades of calling it home, I had the privilege to bring my one-month-old daughter to meet her home away from home.
From landing in 1993 as a little girl to bringing my own little one in 2023 , an absolutely beautiful journey of 30 years.
