The first knee cartilage transplant surgery in Bahrain was successfully carried out recently, marking a new milestone for the kingdom’s medical sector.
The ground-breaking procedure was performed by Dr Fares Uddin on national fencing team athlete Yusuf Salman, with sponsorship from the Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC).
National Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation Centre director Dr Moayyed Al Alawi confirmed that Mr Salman is currently undergoing an intensive rehabilitation programme following the surgery.
“We are working closely on the athlete’s rehabilitation to ensure full recovery and to restore him to the highest level of readiness for a safe return to competition,” said Dr Al Alawi.
