Bahraini pays artistic tribute to pioneering local initiative

A Bahraini artist’s tribute to a pioneering local project recently captivated visitors at a leading arts institution in the UAE.

Buthaina Shaheen, an employee at the Municipalities and Agriculture Affairs Ministry, took part in an exhibition at the Fujairah Fine Arts Academy, where she showcased her painting of a water misting project along a walkway in the Southern Governorate.

The work, titled ‘Art between Humans and Machines’, depicts Bahrain’s first sprinkler system for cooling public outdoor spaces implemented on Isa Town’s rubberised walking track by the Southern Municipality.

It operates using fine water mist to provide a refreshing environment for pedestrians and is regarded as a pioneering project in applying environmentally friendly cooling systems in public facilities across the country.

Speaking to the GDN, Ms Shaheen expressed her love for art, especially paintings that focus on nature.

“I have always loved creating paintings that highlight the relationship between people and nature,” said Ms Shaheen.

“So when I heard about the UAE exhibition, I wanted to do something related to that concept, and also showcase one of the Southern Governorate’s achievements.

“When I remembered the sprinkler system at the Isa Town walkway, I thought it would be a great idea as it perfectly encapsulates the harmony between humans, machines, and nature.
