The Bahrain Farmers Market will continue throughout Ramadan on every Saturday, without cafés, restaurants and cultural performances, a top minister confirmed in a statement issued yesterday.
Municipalities Affairs and Agriculture Minister Wael Al Mubarak also revealed that more than 220,000 people have visited the Farmers Market so far this season, and bought more than 250 tonnes of local produce.
Mr Al Mubarak noted that the market signalled the development of the agricultural sector in Bahrain as part of the comprehensive development journey led by His Majesty King Hamad, in line with the directives of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister.
The minister also highlighted the support received from Her Royal Highness Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa, wife of His Majesty and National Initiative for Agricultural Development (NIAD) Advisory Council president.
Mr Al Mubarak was speaking during a field visit to the market alongside NIAD secretary-general Shaikha Maram bint Isa Al Khalifa, Agriculture and Animal Resources Affairs Under-Secretary Asim Abdul Latif Abdulla and other officials.
More than 100 varieties of fresh produce have been showcased this year by agricultural companies, plant nurseries, small businesses, productive families, date shops and beekeepers.
