7.6 million people take to the streets and strike for climate action. Led by 16 year old Swedish climate activist, Greta Thunberg. This strike has been the biggest climate mobilisation in history. With more than 130 countries , in big cities and small villages, millions of people joined hands and raised their voices in defense of the climate. "The Global Climate Strike shows that we have the people power we need to create a just world and end the era of fossil fuels."
Scientists have spoken about this issue for years, but have yet to be heard. Mrs. Thunberg has been urging politicians and world leaders to take this matter seriously and to share this information with the public. She believes that people are simply unaware of the situation. There are facts based on science that according to reports we have about 11 years before we set off an irreversible chain reaction beyong human control. "To avoid this, aspects of society need to change within this coming decade. We need to cooperate and work together and share the resources of the planet in a fair way. We need to start living within the plantary boundaries, focus on equity and take a few steps back for the sake of all living species." Says Mrs. Thunberg
Youths have been eager to solve one of the greatest challenges in human history. They say the adult generations have promised to stop the climate crisis ,but they have skipped their homework year after year. Students all around the world have decided to not attend classes and instead take part in demonstrations to demand change. "If you prefer us in schools, then we suggest you take our place instead."
With the strike over, activists say this is just the beginning'; they have just started to clean up a mess and will not stop until it is done. Demonstrators will continue to spread the message all over the world and demand their voice be heard.
"Climate strike is a wake-up call to our own generation. "
