Baku is one of the oldest and most beautiful cities I have been to. After having seen Paris and Dubai, Baku seems to have the best of both worlds, surrounded by the beautiful Caucasus Mountain range. It has centuries of rich cultural and architectural heritage like the Maiden Tower and Shirvanshah Palace in the fascinating walls of UNESCO listed old city. And on the other side, it has famous modern-day wonders like the Zaha Hadid designed Heydar Aliyev Center, The Funicular and the Flame towers.
The country all around had a great infrastructure and warm hospitality, though language might be a slight problem in the rural areas.
As I am a foodie, the overall Chai, food and beverage experiences were amazing - right from eating with a local family in Xinaliq Village to the hot chestnuts on the Nizami Street on a freezing wintry December night. And the festivities going on, Christmas being around the corner, it added the right amount of spirit & cheer to our weeklong family vacation.
