SIXTY-EIGHT per cent of individuals who contracted the coronavirus from abroad were returning to Bahrain from Iran, reports the GDN’s Raji Unnikrishnan.
The Health Ministry yesterday released latest statistics that showed 353 Covid-19 cases had a history of travel to countries with high infection rates, of which 241 contracted the virus while in Iran.
“To date, a total of 241 confirmed Covid-19 cases have been detected among travellers returning from Iran,” said the ministry in a statement.
“This is followed by 57 travellers returning from the UK, 12 travellers returning from Egypt, eight returnees from Iraq, and 27 travellers from other countries with high infection rates.
“Bahrain, with its high recovery rate, is being recognised as a model for mitigating the spread of Covid-19,” added the ministry.
“The Health Ministry is committed to maintaining total transparency of reporting and care, and publishes regular, up to date and in-depth public health information covering all active cases and their contacts.
“The ministry asks that citizens and residents refrain from sharing public health information from unofficial sources.”
The GDN reported yesterday that people from 14 nationalities are among the cases listed on the ministry’s website dedicated to the coronavirus.
